About Accountants Direct

After 20+ years managing some of Australia’s largest and well known companies such as Optus Ltd and OzEmail Ltd I decided I needed to go it alone. Up to this point I’d been responsible for up to 200 staff and developed and oversaw major projects in telecomunications, finance and sport (including assisting the Gold Coast Titans win NRL licence). I also managed to complete a 2 university degrees and a Graduate Diploma in Company Directorship at quite an early age.

I always believed I could design a better way of doing tax returns. Mr Tax Refund was launched as Australia’s first national over-the-phone tax service. In the first few years we grew to servicing almost 5,000 new clients, established 3 retail locations in the Perth area and launched a franchise program.

The company merged with then acquired a retail chain of shopping centre pop-up tax shops. By 2018 the combined business represented over 20 locations Australia wide making us the 2nd largest provider of retail tax solutions in the country. By then we were servicing over 14,000 clients worldwide. The arrival of COVID hit us hard as we had so many retail sites planned for the 2021 tax season and had to pivot quickly.

We commenced merging Mr Tax Refund with our new brand name Accountants Direct in late 2019 and started broadening services to attract more small business. Another first for Accountants Direct as we successfully launch Australia’s first online tax service called Accountants Live. At this stage we are considered Australia’s premier virtual accountant and are ideally placed to offer tax and accounting services when COVID restrictions extended month after month.

In 2022 we commercialised our bespoke workflow software called Taxcess and became accredited with the Institute of Public Accountants and Profit First – the worlds most recognised cash management system. In mid 2022 we launched Australia’s fastest pay nothing upfront tax refund service. Accountants Direct now provides compliance and advisory services to a range of clients within Australia and around the world. Through programs such as Strategic Profit Plan™ and Strategic Structure Plan™ we empower families and organisations to grow organically and profitably through smart decision making and innovation.
